I've suddenly felt it necessary to create: My Cobra Resume. Here is the Experience section of my resume:
As a young teen, I spent much of my free time at Kings Island Amusement Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. I loved roller coasters, including this one - the King Cobra, which I believe was the first roller coaster to go upside-down, while the passengers stood up. Quite thrillling! As an adult, especially an adult living in Yoga Country, I have even pretended to be a Cobra.
Well, today, I took my Cobra experience to a new level...one that I could have lived without. Even as I think about writing this, my heart starts racing again.
I go to my painting class on Saturday mornings. It is located in the front yard of a house. The art area is basically under a large tent ceiling. The yard has lots of plants & bushes in it, almost jungle like. The artist has a love for birds, and the area is filled with bird cages. Aside from the occasional VERY LOUD squaking of the Parrot and the million mosquitos, I find the area quite peaceful and a great place to paint. Normally, the area fills up with around 15 kids and maybe 7ish adults.
When I arrived today (15 minutes late), the art area was empty...no one there. Oh...today is the final day of a very large 10-day religious festival, so maybe class was cancelled. Soon, 3 boys walked up, so we decided to stay and paint/draw. Ten minutes before the end of the normal class time, it was just me and one (maybe 6-7 year old) boy. Some noise caught my attention. I look to the other side of the tented area and there is an EXTREMELY LARGE snake hanging/swinging over a Medal Easel. HOLY COW! I point out the snake to the boy and said we have to leave. All of my belongings were within reach, but the boy would have had to move around a bit to collect his supplies that were spread out. Our hearts pounding, we head out of the property. The boy looks calm, I am slow to realize that he is relying on me, the adult, to know what to do. Oh! He is asking me if I will take him to his house. I said, your parents will be here to pick you up soon, I will wait with you. Domnic is outside the gate...thank goodness!!! We describe the 10 foot long snake that was as big around as a tea saucer in the middle. Domnic, who apparently knows snakes, asked us the color. The boy and I looked at each other and said "brown." Domnic said it was a cobra. UGH! The boy was too cute, he said "my legs are shaking." I told him mine were too. His dad pulled up soon and we were both on our way. Then I decided to send a message to the artist, since his family (several generations) and their hired help with families live on the property. Nearly an hour later, I could still feel my heart pounding.
Note: the photo above is from Google...this was one of those - don't stop and take a photo moments

I hope Paula doesn't read this post. Just never thought you would run across a cobra during your stay there. Guess I thought maybe the city wouldn't allow them in to frighten the expats. Make a wide berth around ALL bushes and trees from NOW ON.
ReplyDeleteOh my word...how scary. The closest we got to one was in Agra and they were outside of our windows. So glad you're okay...be careful!!!
